VICTORY OVER RON GUENTHER DAY!!!

My friends, today's News-Gazette says that Coach Guenther is out after 2008!!! This is truly a day to remember! Finally, we can look forward to a day when mediocrity will no longer be tolerated; where misbehaving student-athletes are not coddled; and where excellence is expected and not a mere hope.

Today, November 16, 2007 is V-ORG DAY: Victory Over Ron Guenther Day!!!

Of Bowl Tickets & Bad Football Officials

Hey, Illinois beat the #1 team, Ohio State, in their stadium! Illinois should be able to play in a New Year's Day Bowl game, assuming they beat Northwestern (who has beaten Illinois 4 straight times).

My concern is whether the DIA fouls up distributing bowl tickets (admittedly, the DIA is not used to distributing bowl tickets under the Football Guy, 72-109-2.). Recall the Sugar Bowl: the buffoons at the DIA let LSU fans buy tickets in the Illinois section. When Illinois decided that wasn't a good idea, the LSU fans sued and won.

Meantime, remember the awful officiating that cost Illinois a chance to beat Michigan in 2000? Why didn't Ron Guenther publicly criticize the officials? The Oregon State AD has a pair.

WIND To Air UIC Games: Conflict for UI basketball?

So WIND is now going to be the home for UIC Men's basketball in addition to Illini basketball. Already, there are two games where the two game times conflict. Isn't the reason the best AD in the country took UI off WSCR was so UI could have a home all to its own? Nah, real reason was that Guenther kow-towed to those whose skin was too sensitive to put up with the barbs from the hosts on The Score.

So now UI Basketball is on a weak signal that sometimes doesn't bother to carry the pregame & postgame shows. The contract is up after this season. UI Sports deserves better.

Scheduling Worry for 2008

It is never to early to look to 2008. Coach Guenther already screwed up with the silly Missouri game in St. Louis through 2010 to open the next three seasons (not to mention this year). In 2008, Illinois opens Big 10 play @Penn State and @Michigan. Currently, there is a game "TBD" for September 20 before those two games. Look here.

So hopefully Coach Guenther schedules a cupcake at home for September 20 and not a game against a team from a BCS school.
