TRUSTEES WILL EXTEND ST. GUENTHER'S CONTRACT

At its next meeting on September 23, the University of Illinois Board of Trustees will vote on a proposal to extend the contract of the best AD in the country through July 1, 2011 at his current salary of $600K (I presume this will be pro-rated).

Analysis of this move:

1) The fact he is staying is bad enough, but he should be forced to take a pay cut.
2) The fact that the extension is not longer suggests that new UI President Michael Hogan wants his own man as AD and not this loser.
3) I assume the search for new AD starts next spring, so he/she can take over on July 2, 2011.

I hope that your third point is correct. July 2, 2011 cannot come fast enough.

Amazingly thee are a few Guenther supporters peaking there head out the sand because we beat a 1AA school last weekend. Take a look at the 82 wins during the Turner and Zook eras. Nearly half are over 1AA schools. Its obvious that Zook will get another year after this. Hogan couldnt possible let RG fire Zook this fall and hire another incompetent could he?

I hope Illinois has a lot of empty seats today at their game against NIU. My grandson (whom we raised + still support) wanted to drive down with a group of other frosh-soph NIU students to see the game. He just called disappointed with the news that tickets are $45 + no one can afford them. I don't know what other universities charge, but isn't there at least a student price for the students of the visiting team? The group has a lot of friends down at UI + had planned to meet them to visit. I think they are driving down anyway. I am hoping that maybe they were misinformed + can get better priced tickets. Even with a NIU student, we have always always followed Illinois football + basketball + we are so dishearted at the level of coaching ability. What is Illinois thinking?

Kathy,

The point is "they are not thinking." At least about the little guy!! The Guenther administration has always been "big-donor" friendly but has never considered the little guy. Hopefully our new AD will be more "fan-friendly" and wont call any of our athletes "idiots."
